campus grounds

I would like to give a shout out to the campus grounds keepers.  I come on to campus and I am in awe of how well the grounds are kept.  The layout is wonderful and beautifully organized.  every spring they design the OU logo in a floral pattern and when it's in bloom the color bursts throughout the court yard.  I used to think some of the military bases that I had been to were well kept but those pale in comparison to the grounds here at OU.  The manicuring that is done throughout the University is just...superb.  Those folks that maintain the grounds don't get any credit for what they do.  I wish the students could see what I see.  Hard work and dedication to a job and a place that give back to the students, the city of Norman, and the state of Oklahoma.  Its the labor forces as a whole that provide a lot for everyone and yet their hard work goes unnoticed and underpaid if you ask me.  We should all take some time to think of the blood, sweat, and tears that go into the things that we take for granted.  I just noticed this morning that the Bizzel Library at OU is now a national landmark as of 2001. So, next time you are on a bridge, a building, or a garden please take the time to think of the work and labor that someone put into it for you and the rest of society.

Johnny Cash said it best!   I’ve been everywhere.   Being in the military I have traveled the world and learned and experienced numerous things while living abroad.    I have lived a life that most haven’t.   There are some in the military haven’t experienced what I have.   I got to live overseas for about 12 years and almost ten with my wife.   Living in the UK was fabulous. I have seen many fine works are art, the crown jews, Stonehenge, and Buckingham Palace to name a few. Then, living in Germany was great too.   Seeing castles, tasting the food, learning about some things from WWII, and the countryside is beautiful.   I would love to go back because there is so much more to experience.   In my travels, I have been and to so many iconic places, such as Notre Dame, the Eifel tower, I have seen the Mona Lisa, and Gaudi’s cathedral. Allen's word of equality

My analysis of Danielle Allen's first part of her book is that she is talking about liberty and equality and the difference between the two. She hones in on equality and basically states that equality is the goal... it is better.  We want to be equal and we want freedom and liberty.  Equality is the fairness that we yearn for.  Equality is the treatment that transcends out of freedom and liberty.
